Unison - Music Vs. War

UNISON - a music project against war
Checking the dictionary and we learn: UNISON means singing or playing on the same note or octave. This is the name of a band consisting of eleven members aged 16 to 42 and from no less than eight countries. Together they produce music against war.
The project was initiated by Dr. Sarah Kass from Paderborn. It was produced by Maurice Stute at LAVA Studios in Paderborn, supported by Tonika e.V., a multinational association in Paderborn for the promotion of art, culture and society.
Just as different cultures and nationalities meet within the band and ,,sing on the same note" together, so too do many different musical styles mix within the first album produced. It's called MUSIC VS. WAR and it mixes many different musical styles: ballads, pop songs, rap, rock and classical etudes.
The foundation of the project was laid by an open casting in the Paderborn youth centre MultiCult. This was followed by various workshops and recording sessions with, among others, the composer Lars Hesse and the songwriter Thomas Auerswald, who have already developed several music and music theatre projects together. The aim was for the young
band not only to produce their album, but also to take away enough expertise for band marketing.
What the band members have in common is the motivation to speak about war with their music. Their songs are about inner struggles, doubts, and traumas, but also about hope:
,,We want to show with our songs what bad things happen in war, but also that they are not alone and must never lose hope." Of course, the chance to work professionally with other experienced musicians, to gain new experiences and to exchange ideas with each other was also an important impetus to take on the casting.
