Amy Montgomery - ASTIL

Release 2024/01/05
Amy Montgomery is a 24 year old rock artist from Ireland, based in Germany.

There's both gravity and exuberance in Amy Montgomery's voice. It's an instrument of raw, visceral power that leaps out of the speakers, roars from the stage and captivates the listener. Having made waves over the last few years with critically acclaimed singles such as 'Dangerous', 'Intangible' and 'Tree Song', she returns with this brand-new EP that captures the sheer power and exhilarating drama of her live performance.

Already a major live draw in Europe and Australia, with a headline slot in Vienna last summer at Sisters Festival, Amy has also won a devoted home fanbase following previous performances at the likes of Glastonbury, Electric Picnic, Black Deer, Cambridge Folk Festival and many more. In 2023, Amy built on her international approach to touring with Mastering The Music Business in Bucharest, Romania along with Pro Weekend Fest in Valencia, Spain and Lucerne Festival, Switzerland as well as countless gigs all over Germany.

'ASTIL' is coming. With every release, no one can be sure what is coming from Amy Montgomery. This is exactly the reason why there is such a build up of excitement before new music. 'ASTIL' explores a somewhat new sonic direction compared to her last releases. It is filled with the raw emotion that we know so well from Amy, but also a newly found dirt that drives the music forward in a way we did not think was possible.

Working with producer Michael Mormecha, the power duo have delivered an EP of interesting, hooky, heavy, dark yet positively driven, energetic tracks.

The first single from the EP 'Meet You In The Sun' was a huge success, having the biggest draw in streaming figures out of Amy's discography so far, it is sitting on over 90,000 streams on Spotify.

Amy got her first ever BBC Radio 1 play on 'Introducing Rock' as well as getting Track Of The Week on Planet Rock with the second single from the EP titled 'Change Change'.

Recently emigrating from Ireland to Germany has influenced Montgomery and Mormecha to be inspired by a 1989 German hit 'Für Immer Und Dich' by Rio Reiser. After initially recording this song as a gift for a friend, Montgomery/Mormecha decided that this would work well as a proper release. This is the first time this song has been translated and released in English as 'Forever And You'.

The final single from the EP is the title track 'ASTIL'. This was the only song recorded in Germany, with the other 4 being recorded in Ireland. The title track 'ASTIL' gives us glimpses of Nine Inch Nails, Sheryl Crow, Talking Heads and tribal celtic roots all weaved into one unique song.
