Stefski & Hutch have gathered songs that are equally direct, sophisticated and very much alive and rocking. No samples or loops on display, they don't even use keyboards, only drums, bass, a lot of guitars and vocals.
Stefski & Hutch was formed in 2016 by Stéphane "Stefski" Wlodarczyk, a songwriter born and raised in Paris and Tomasz "Hutch" Bogacki a guitarist and sound engineer from Warsaw. After some 10 years spent in Poland as a promoter for some of the greatest french artists, Stephane had written many songs on an acoustic guitar, Tomasz picked the one he liked the best and started recording a first EP named "Classic Rock?!?" released in the fall of 2017. That led them to playing gigs, just the two of them with acoustic guitars, in bars, clubs, festivals and even to share the stage at a prestigious gala with some of the most famous polish artists. In February 2020 they released their first album for a polish audience with a little help from Warner Music Poland, despite having a few of their polish singles airplayed on some local radios, there were no gigs to be played and less promotion opportunities than ever during that period. Stefski & Hutch, like many bands in the world, became then for a while fully a studio project. After some rehearsals with a professional drummer and Tomasz on bass, then a few drums recording sessions, they decided to produce their new music themselves with Tomasz handling all recording and mixing duties alone.
That's when the sound of the band started to get more precise, a fresh take on an 90's flavored alternative rock, still remembering the 70's as much as the birth of indie rock and trash metal in the 80's not mentioning all the jazz, blues and funk learned from pianist Janusz Bogacki, Tomasz's father and the african and world music coming from a youth spent in Paris. So, just as if nothing had happened since 20 years on the world rock music stage Stefski & Hutch have gathered songs that are equally direct, sophisticated and very much alive and rocking. No samples or loops on display, they don't even use keyboards, only drums, bass, a lot of guitars and vocals. Tomasz says they are a folk band because they do some kind of protest songs, it's just that these days Stéphane plays more riffy overdriven rhythm guitars than he used to when strumming his acoustic guitar during the first years of the band.
